Economic Development Commission
The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is an advisory body to the City Council and the Economic Development Authority charged with the responsibility of researching, reviewing, and making recommendations on issues related to economic development.
- Zoning ordinance changes that could affect businesses (commercial, industrial, and mixed use districts)
- Fee policies as they relate to businesses
- Private Activity Bond and Business Assistance Policies
- The creation of new TIF districts
- TIF and Tax Abatement Applications
- Economic Development Authority and City land sales
- Business regulation provision including business licensing (i.e. liquor, tobacco, etc.)
- The areas of the Comprehensive Plan affecting economic development and commercial/industrial land uses
- City’s legislative agenda related to Economic Development
- Potential new or revised approaches to City Economic Development policy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications for Appointment
The qualifications of the EDC members shall be those who in judgment of the Council are representative of the community and are qualified by training, experience, and interest useful for the fulfillment of the EDC’s responsibility in economic development. All appointed members will receive training in the relevant laws, policies and procedures.
Three years (may serve two terms).
Members Representing the City
The EDC shall consist of seven regular members and one alternate member to be appointed by the City Council. The alternates may vote when there are six or fewer regular members present.
